All Jina Djembes will now come with a reinforced
rubber footing at base of drum to protect wood from grating on the
ground. All Jina Djembes will also come with a basic Malian
bogolan(mudcloth) djembe "hat" to provide basic protection to head
of drum from the elements. Both of these improvements do not
affect the price of the djembe and are free with each purchase.

The traditional wooden (lenge) konkoni. Perfectly measured for
a balanced sound. This is the first dunun that started it all.
Excellent portability and can provide the bass and foundation for
working with traditional djembe soloing patterns. All konkonis
are of the same quality as the photo above. There is not
enough difference between konkoni to warrant posting a separate
photo of each konkoni. Konkoni will be headed up with fresh
goat skin and professional black climbing rope imported from Europe
upon purchase (before shipped). Each konkoni ships with 4 special lightweight konkoni sticks (konkoni kala)
free with your purchase. You can see an example of the
konkoni stick in the photo above.
Konkonis are similar to the guinean sangban except that they have
their skin sewn on to each end with rope instead of iron rings.
Also, goat skin is used instead of cow. This makes the konkoni
very easy to play with its own lightweight konkoni sticks and gives
a very warm and pleasant bass sound that is an perfect compliment to
students who like the ancient more traditional style of djembe
playing.

Each childs Jina djembe will be hand signed inside the tail by
Isaiah Chevrier. Isaiah is 6 years old and has become well
known on YouTube for his
outstanding djembe playing from a young age. These Kids Jinas
will be the first completely professional djembes made for kids ages
4 to 8 years old. These childrens djembes are made by the same
strict standards as our adult model Jina Djembes and are intended

These djembes go far above the call of duty of any professional
djembe. These djembes are so exceptional that we call them "Jina"
djembes. "Jina" means "spirit".
I truly believe these drums are the best
quality djembes available in the world currently. What makes
this site special is that you can pick any djembe on this site based
on its picture alone and guarantee that it will be more amazing than
you imagined when it arrives at your door. There are a lot of secrets that have gone
into the creation of each shell. The form of these shells are
the accumulation of 3 years of research and experimentation towards
the creation of the ideal djembe shell - in terms of both sound and
beauty. BTW, they are not created over night so
please be patient in terms of production of new jina djembes.

We do not produce these drums for
wholesale because this kind of quality cannot be made in quantity. We
take our time on each one. We also pay all workers
approximately 2 to 3 times the going rates to ensure fair trade values
and quality :) When you purchase a djembe from
rootsyrecords.com you support 4 things:
1) All of the
cultural preservation and promotion work for traditional djembe
drumming and dancing that rootsyrecords does in Mali. This
includes all the great free video footage offered up on
rootsyrecords.com and youtube.

artists. I employ many local Malian craftsman to help me
at every stage. I pay workers 2 to 3 times the going rates
in order to play a small role in helping alleviate poverty in
Africa. I also believe in karma. The good you do in
life always comes back to you.

support myself and my family here in Bamako,
Mali so that I can continue to make great drums and do the
things rootsyrecords does here in Mali.

All djembes are finished with hand made peanut
oil and hand processed Malian bush bees wax.
We individually
pack each djembe securely and deliver to any country in the world
direct to your door from Bamako, Mali - West Africa using the

COMMENTS: First off, this djembe was carved
out of the log of a lenge tree that died naturally in the
bush here in Mali. The tree dried naturally before
being found. This is very rare and difficult to find.
Most djembe players in West Africa love this wood which they
call "Lenge Jalen". They say that the old wood that is
found already dried has the best sound for the djembe.
Because of the rare nature of this wood the price of this
jina djembe is higher than the rest. Extremely special
djembe.
This is our Large Jina size
djembe. Because of the size of this drum and difficulty in finding logs big
enough to form its bowl without sap wood, the price is
higher. If you are looking for a massive sound that
resonates this is your drum. This is a "Bara Djembe"
because of the round large bowl. This shape gives an
incredible resonant tone and slap. It has the village sound some djembe players
are looking for. Great djembe with top quality pure heartwood
